Abstract

Abstract

This study examined student teachers’ perceptions of and expectations regarding the quality of cultural-social services at Farhangian University. The research was applied in purpose and descriptive-survey in method. The statistical population of the study consisted of all student teachers who were enrolled. Accordingly, out of 9,459 students currently studying, 956 participants participated in the research using a multistage cluster random sampling method. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire with 16 items measuring the quality of cultural-social services. Face and content validity were confirmed by experts, and reliability was established using Cronbach’s alpha. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and the paired-samples t-test in SPSS version 26. The results showed a negative and statistically significant gap between perceptions and expectations across all items of cultural-social service quality (p < 0.001), indicating that the services provided were rated below students’ expectations. The largest gap concerned the presence of managers and staff in a manner consistent with the dignity and professional status of teaching. Considerable gaps were also observed in the organization of open discussion forums and student meetings, as well as cultural-educational camps. The smallest gap was related to extracurricular activities aimed at strengthening and developing the teaching profession. Overall, the findings suggest that the current cultural-social services do not adequately meet student teachers’ expectations. Therefore, targeted review, planning, and improvement efforts are necessary to enhance the quality of these services.
