Abstract

Background and Objectives: In the present era, with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technologies, significant transformations have occurred in various fields, including education. Teachers, as the central axis of the teaching-learning process, need to adapt to these changes and utilize innovative educational tools. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of using artificial intelligence technologies and applications on enhancing self-directed learning and professional development among primary school teachers. Methods: The research method employed was a semi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test phases, including a control group. The statistical population comprised all second-grade elementary school teachers in districts 2 and 3 of Karaj city during the academic year 2024-2025, with a multi-stage cluster sampling method that randomly selected two schools from each educational district. Data collection tools included Fisher et al.'s self-directed learning questionnaire (2013) and the professional development standard questionnaire from the Kentucky Professional Standards Group (2011). Over seven sessions of 55 minutes each, the experimental group received training in effective teaching skills utilizing Sider extension, Imagica AI, and Taskade artificial intelligence technologies and applications. In contrast, the control group was trained using conventional methods during this period. To analyze the research data, descriptive statistics (mean frequency, standard deviation) were employed, and multivariate covariance analysis was conducted to test the hypotheses. Findings: The research findings indicated that the use of artificial intelligence significantly enhanced self-directed learning and its sub-components, including self-management and self-control. Additionally, the results demonstrated that artificial intelligence positively impacted teachers' profession
