[English]

In recent decades, teacher education systems have increasingly emphasized the development of professional competencies, instructional skills, and performance standards. However, despite their fundamental role in shaping educational practice, the identity-related, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of teachers have received comparatively limited attention within coherent theoretical frameworks. The present study aimed to develop a conceptual model of teacher education grounded in the teachings of Islamic spiritual wayfaring (suluk). The study employed a qualitative approach using directed qualitative content analysis. Data were collected through purposive sampling of Islamic sources related to spiritual cultivation and education, including selected Qur’anic verses, Tafsir al-Mizan, and prominent Islamic ethical and educational texts. The analytical process involved repeated examination of the texts, extraction of relevant themes, conceptual classification, constant comparison, organization of themes into higher-order categories, and their comparative integration with contemporary theories of teacher education, including teacher professional identity, moral education, and professional teacher development. To enhance trustworthiness, all stages of the analysis were systematically documented, and the resulting framework was reviewed by experts in Islamic education. The findings revealed that spiritual wayfaring constitutes the core dimension of teacher education, serving as the foundation for the formation of teachers’ professional identity and the integrative axis of other educational dimensions. It provides coherence for five interrelated domains: spiritual, ethical, intellectual, relational, and social. Based on these findings, a conceptual model was developed that may contribute to the revision of teacher education programs and the strengthening of the identity-oriented and ethical dimensions of the teaching profession.
