Background and Objectives: With the ever-increasing expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, exploring the lived experiences of counseling student-teachers regarding the integration of this technology into educational processes specifically in designing and implementing counseling practice scenarios has gained paramount importance. The present study aimed to explain and understand the lived experiences of counseling student-teachers regarding the application of AI in this domain..Methods: This study was conducted using a qualitative approach within the framework of Colaizzi’s descriptive phenomenology. The research population consisted of male counseling student-teachers at Farhangian University of Ardabil during the 2025–2026 academic year. Data were collected through 16 semi-structured interviews, utilizing purposeful sampling until theoretical saturation was achieved. Data analysis was performed using Colaizzi’s (1978) seven-step coding method. Findings:The phenomenological analysis of the data led to the identification of 13main themes and 34 sub-themes. \The results indicated that the student-teachers’ experiences of AI application are organized into four key axes: 1. Emotional lived experience (fluctuating between technological enthusiasm and ambiguity); 2. Educational facilitating potentials versus communicative limitations (digital coldness); 3. Redefinition of professional identity (transitioning from a technical role to a human meaning-maker); and 4.The necessity of institutionalizing technology as a complementary component in the future educational structure.Ultimately, the results emphasized that despite enhancing practical self-efficacy, AI cannot replace intuitive understanding and emotional nuances in the counseling process. Conclusion: Student-teachers perceiveAI as an effective tool for facilitating learning and practicing counseling skills; however, they emphasize the irreplaceable role of human, ethical, and relationship-oriented dimensions in counseling.
